This is in response to N5's post .. i kinda had quite a lot of points so i'm putting it all up here...
Any text of wisdom, whether theological or secular, will tell u that the aim of life is self-realisation, practice of correct morals, living with self-respect and bulding up of a stable, complete character. Religion is one way to achieve all this. Correction...the unadulterated, ideal concept of religion in the broadest meaning is a "means" to achieve an "end", which is God...
U may or may not believe in God. If you do, you are free to look upon God in any form u like. You are allowed to define God for yourselves in such a way that THE DEFINITION U MADE FOR YOURSELF MAKES U A GOOD PERSON, WHO DEVELOPS THE CORRECT APPROACH TO LIFE AND FELLOW BEINGS...
You may look upon God as the father of the universe with infinite power in his hands, or as a friend who always guides u at every stage of ur life, or as a hero with the qualities u aspire for yourselves...when u grow old u can look upon God even as ur child...You are free to follow the teachings of any prophet..in all these cases, what stands out clearly is that u have to "attain one-ness" (as the term goes) with God.. hence becoming good and reforming yourselves is already implied in the same..
For you, God could also be an intangible entity..a Force..pure energy..which could take many forms from time to time.. u could personify this force into a common but ideal embodiment...a human being, an animal, a plant..even the collective beauty of nature...whatever/ whoever God is, it/he should be a mentor which/who moulds you with positive energy...
If you do not believe in God, on account of your own ideas supported with maybe with science, the only thing that matters is the outcome of your existence as a social being.. discipline yourselves to be good and lead a life flavoured with broad-mindedness that does not end-up in meaningless conflict of ideas (applies to both believers and non-believers)
Religions are different methods to arrive at the same result. Various exponents and prophets have existed, preached, lead people in the right path before leaving earth.. and today people fight in their names.. this saddening, disheartening phenomenon reveals a total misunderstanding of their teachings..
You were born in this world not to prove yourselves, or your religion greater than others'..you were rather born in this world...as a spiritual being on a human visit..to understand the meaning of one-ness of all religions, and learn to co-exist peacefully with the world.. and ultimately realise the purpose of life..
thank u n5, for bringing up the topic..

Ponder on This
this is a story by Jalal-ud-din Rumi a Sufi. Many of us would have read this but it is what follows from this story that is important.
There was a country where there was a city entirely inhabited by blind people. One day the news came that an elephant was passing outside the walls of the city. The citizens held a meeting and decided to send a delegation of three men outside the gates so that they could report back to the city what an elephant was. The three men left the town, found the elephant and felt the animal with their hands. Then they all returned back to their town to report what they had felt.
The first man said:"The elephant is like a snake, but it can stand vertically upright in the air!"
The second man said:"The elephant is like a pillar. It is firm and round and solid. No matter how much you push you cannot knock it over."
The third man said:"The elephant is like a broad pankah (a fan). It is wide flat and leathery. "
All the three men stuck to their story and argued with each other till they vowed to never speak to each other. each professed that they and they alone knew the whole truth.
But we know that each person had felt only a part of the elephant. The first had felt the tail, the second the leg and the third the ear. All had a part of the truth, but none of them had begun to grasp the totality or the greatness of the beast. If they had listened to each other, they might have realized the true nature of the beast. But they were too proud and instead they preferred to keep to their half truths.
So it is with religion. Muslims see Allah in one way, Hindus have a different conception, and the Christians have a third. To us, all our different conceptions seem incompatible and irreconcilable. But what we forget is that to God we are like blind men stumbling around in total darkness.

The Rock n' Roll Philosophy
Whoever said that Rock and Rap was all about headbanging, violence, sex, etc????
Here N5 has brought to you some examples of lyrics from some of his favorite songs which have some real meanings. For some of them you might have to dig a little deep.
Master of puppets Im pulling your strings
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams - Metallica (Master Of Puppets)
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough - R.E.M. (Losing My Religion)
Pay your surgeon very well
To break the spell of aging
Celebrity skin is this your chin
Or is that war your waging...
Space may be the final frontier
But it's made in a Hollywood basement - Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Californication)
I think I'll take ahold
Of whatever comes my way
Then we'll see what happens
Take it day by day...
Tell me what you can hear
And then tell me what you see
Everybody has a different way to view the world
I would like you to know when you see the simple things
To appreciate this life it's not too late to learn - Iron Maiden (Different World)
If you're havin' girl problems i feel bad for you son
I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one - JayZ (99 Problems)
These are just a few of the examples. Wait for more

Where is the CET ki Jai??????
Our college is said to be the best college in Kerala. It is among the top 40 colleges in India. But apart from these numbers, what else is there that makes our college stand out from the rest?? If we ask anyone from Calicut about NIT, we will be hearing a really long story about how NIT is so big, how its fests are so awesome and so on. But we dont get the same response from any Trivandrumite.
CETians are divided into the MH, the DayScis, and the nonMH-nondayscis and not to forget the hostel girls(whom we dont see anywhere for any programme outside this college). The MH have their MH pride, the DayScis whith their pride, the rest have the pride for surviving without any help from either the MH or Dayscis. The best example in our college of this divide is the ISTE+LnD(which is full of dayscis) and the SFI(full of MH). Each has a puppet member representing the otherside.
What is missing here is the all important College pride. Whenever our college wins something over in another college, we usually hear from some friends, and we just shrug and probably say 'ok there's one guy who is doin something.' Its more like that guy won it for himself instead for our college.
We need to make our presence felt in the state in the students scenario. And we need to make our presence felt as a College united, without any Mh or dayscis, etc.
